Suagercubes88 - Mellark Children

Mellark Children:

It’s a warm spring afternoon. A waft of delicious aroma of freshly baked goods lingers around the Mellark household. Buttercup, the old cat with a tatty ginger coat, stretches and yawns. Peeta Mellark was just baking a beautiful cake in the kitchen. He leaves the beautifully decorated cake on the kitchen table. It’s Katniss’s birthday today.
The door at the back of the house opens and two children run in. The girl, whose brown hair framed her face like a fluffy cloud, beckons hers little blonde-haired brother inside. The little boy, no older than three years old, strains to keep up with his older sister.
Both children stop at the kitchen door. The girl smiles as she remembers the occasion. She says to her brother, “You mustn’t touch the cake. It’s mummy’s birthday today.”
She pulls a small stool to the table and stands on it to reach the big table. Her brother copies her. She rests her head on the table and takes in the sight of the delightful cake, while her brother goes on tiptoes but barely touching the huge table.
Buttercup enters the kitchen at a slow pace and jumps onto the table and then onto the window sill. He rests there, next to the vase of Primroses and listens to the whispers of his deceased owner’s niece and nephew.
The children leave the kitchen to find their parents. Katniss has never felt so complete in her life.
